Today I had the priviledge of experiencing one of the most amazing scenic activities one could possibly engage in, taking a bicycle ride from Yangshuo to the nearby Yulong River. A popular activity here is riding a bamboo raft down the Yulong River. Although I plan to do this as well, today I thought it would be best to get to know the terrain a bit and just ride as much as I could. Although I eventually made it to a very nice spot at the river, my desire to take the road less traveled got me lost many times through the fields of some of these small farm villages.
If you are the type of person to get really nervous and freak out when you're lost in strange places, then I suggest you join a tour group for this type of excursion. As you can see from the photos, this place is a maze of fields, homes, ponds, lakes, rivers and the like. If you are an adventurous spirit, I suggest jumping right in. I know it can be a little nerve racking to not know where you are, but it really is a great way to see things you would normally never see. Remember, that although there are no "taxis," they do have the motorcycle men with hardhats that will give you a ride to anywhere you need to go, and it's real cheap! Anyway, most tour groups boast being able to get you to the river in 30 minutes. I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but it took me over three hours to finally get to a point at the river I was happy with. In addition to getting lost many times, though, I did also stop to take a lot of pictures.
Enough of my rambling, it's time to see what you've come here for... pictures and videos! Below are three links. I took so many pictures that I had to break this up into three parts. I will start with part one and post the rest as I have time. I hope to enjoy them!
