I wonder if we would eat so much meat if this is how it were presented to us. As you probably know, I'm about to wrap up my third month in China and one thing I find interesting is the presentation of the food. There seems to be quite a different attitude about how people see their food here. Seeing animals hanging from a restaurant window is extremely common, in fact, it seems to almost be a requirement. Feeling hungry yet?
Now seeing a pig like this isn't a common thing in China. Actually this picture was taken at the 2007 Beijing International Spring Carnival at Chaoyang Park, where two things were happening, one, people were welcoming the year of the pig, and two, it was a carnival where one of the primarily attractions is the food.
This is the first of many entries I plan to add about food here in China. It seems when I talk to people about my journeys here, the first thing everyone asks me about is food. So, soon I will be adding the first independent section of the web site dedicated to... you guessed it... food! Keep your senses peeled.
