Here are some pictures I took of the hike up to Harmony Peak at the top of Heng Shan, one of China's holiest mountains, often referred to as Nan Yue Shan (Southern High Mountain), while I was volunteer teaching in HuNan province.

Some amazing scenery along the way. Since it seemed most people took the trams and buses up, the 4-hour hike was pretty quiet.

I came to Heng Shan as a weekend getaway from the volunteer teaching I did in the summer of 2006. Here are two other American teachers I roomed with, Amy and Jeremy.

A nice place to relax on the very long hike up the mountain.

There are so many amazing views along the way. Here is a lake just outside a small village.

The sign here reads: Yan Shou Cun(Tsun), the name of a small nearby village.

A lovely photo opportunity. I have no idea who they are but I had to take it.
|
How typical, after 4 plus hours of heavy hiking to the top of the mountain, it's raining and foggy and I can barely see a thing, let alone the view.
|
So I took a picture of the poster in the temple.
