This year I decided to stay in Shenzhen for the Spring Festival. Since this is a migrant city, it was practically deserted for this, the most important national holiday of the year; where everyone tries their best to get home to their families. Although quieter than in a place like Beijing, there were still some places you could see people preparing.
The Central Business District of Shenzhen was practically a ghost town on the Monday before the holiday, except for at these small street fairs
Before the Spring Festival begins, everyone needs a few essentials for their home, so they flock to these street fairs to stock up.
Here's one everyone gets... I refer to it as the Chinese Christmas tree.
This is basically an tree with little non-edible oranges.

These are interesting, little oranges with little fingers! Not editable.
I like these small bamboo plant creations shaped to look like our christmas trees.

The food court at a new shopping center that opened near my apartment called Coastal City. Usually this is full of people but, well, with the holiday and all, it's practically empty. I like the way all the red lanterns look at night, really lights up the night.

The New Year Tree at DiWang Building, the tallest building in Shenzhen.

The entrance to Garden City shopping mall near my apartment.
The entrance to another fair, this one near Haiya Department Store near my apartment. Great places to buy plants. I bought 4 small plants for less than three dollars (Usually the price of one)!

Balloon mice for kids at the fair. Mickey Mouse appears to be everywhere too. I wonder if it's licensed or not? Probably not.

Here's a picture from about halfway down the street fair, you can see the entrance in the distance.

Just another view of the street fair
